Que représente le corps dans le monde hispanique contemporain ? Contrôlé voire anéanti ou effacé par des régimes totalitaires, libéré jusqu’à l’excès par la fin de la censure, enjeu politique ou arme de communication, objet de préoccupations scientifiques ou sociales (pour le soigner, le reconstruire, le rajeunir, le modifier), le corps peut-il encore porter l’identité individuelle ou la mémoire collective ?

Avec pour objets d’études le cinéma, la vidéo, la littérature, les arts visuels ou le flamenco, les vingt-deux contributions de ce volume, regroupées en cinq parties : « Le corps et la norme », « Corps en construction/corps en destruction », « Corps et identité nationale », « Corps et genres artistiques » et « Le corps à l’avant-garde », proposent de réfléchir à ces questionnements et nous montrent que, du début du XXè siècle à nos jours, sous le regard des artistes, le corps n’a cessé de créer le trouble et d’interroger notre rapport aux genres, aux modèles, les limites de notre tolérance et nos liens au vivant.

Embodying, Speaking, Thinking the Body. Corporeality in Question in the Contemporary Hispanic World

Abstract
What does the body represent in the contemporary Hispanic world? Once controlled, erased, or destroyed by totalitarian regimes, then liberated—sometimes excessively—after the end of censorship, the body has become a political issue, a communication tool, and an object of scientific and social concern: to heal it, rebuild it, rejuvenate it, or transform it. Can it still embody individual identity or collective memory? Through twenty-two contributions examining cinema, video, literature, visual arts, and flamenco, this volume explores these questions in five sections: The Body and Norms, Bodies in Construction / Bodies in Destruction, The Body and National Identity, The Body and Artistic Genres, and The Body at the Avant-Garde. Covering the period from the early 20th century to the present, the essays show how artists have continually used the body to challenge norms, question identities and models, test the limits of tolerance, and rethink our relationship with the living world.
