Soupçonnant le réalisme d’être beaucoup plus complexe et opaque qu’il n’y paraît, d’être capable de se redéfinir et de se réinventer avec chaque époque pour mieux bouleverser alors notre vision et notre compréhension du réel, les chercheurs de la NEC+ se sont proposé ces dernières années d’observer l’évo-lution et les diverses manifestations du réalisme dans le cadre de la fiction narrative espagnole des XIXe, XXe et XXIe siècles.

Aussi nous livrent-ils ici une vingtaine d’études embrassant un large éventail d’écrivains (Emilia Pardo Bazán, Leopoldo Alas, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Pío Baroja, Rosa Chacel, Ana María Matute, Elena Quiroga, Alfons Cervera, Fernando Aramburu, Francisco Umbral, Marta Sanz, Cristina Morales, Pablo Gutiérrez, José Ovejero, Elvira Navarro, Gustavo Martín Garzo, Juan Bonilla, Juan Jacinto Muñoz Rengel, Alejandro López Andrada, Juan Marsé et d’autres encore) dont la « veine réaliste » est chaque fois questionnée ou repensée.

Autant d’études, et une réflexion collective, qui prennent ap-pui sur le précieux éclairage apporté par Geneviève Champeau sur « quelques clichés sur le réalisme » et sur le passionnant témoignage des écrivains Isaac Rosa et Marta Sanz, enclins à se demander si le réalisme est toujours une représentation du réel.

Realism(s) in Contemporary Spanish Fiction

Abstract
Suspecting that realism is far more complex and opaque than it seems, capable of redefining and reinventing itself with each era to challenge our perception and understanding of reality, the NEC+ researchers have in recent years set out to observe the evolution and various manifestations of realism within Spanish narrative fiction of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.

They thus present here around twenty studies covering a wide range of writers (Emilia Pardo Bazán, Leopoldo Alas, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Pío Baroja, Rosa Chacel, Ana María Matute, Elena Quiroga, Alfons Cervera, Fernando Aramburu, Francisco Umbral, Marta Sanz, Cristina Morales, Pablo Gutiérrez, José Ovejero, Elvira Navarro, Gustavo Martín Garzo, Juan Bonilla, Juan Jacinto Muñoz Rengel, Alejandro López Andrada, Juan Marsé, and others) whose “realist vein” is each time questioned or reimagined.

These studies, and the collective reflection they represent, build upon the valuable insights offered by Geneviève Champeau on “some clichés about realism” and on the fascinating testimony of writers Isaac Rosa and Marta Sanz, who are inclined to ask whether realism still represents reality at all.
