Francisco Zárate Ruiz (ca. 1875-1907) perteneció a esa generación de escritores a caballo entre los siglos XIX y XX que remodelaron el paisaje literario mexicano. Fue prefecto de la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, redactor en El Monitor Republicano y Gil Blas entre otros periódicos de la época, y escribiente para el gobierno del Estado de México.
Publicados entre 1897 y 1906, los cuentos aquí recogidos, al alternar horror, locura y crimen, muestran una de las primeras influencias decisivas del decadentismo mexicano: Edgar Allan Poe. Su producción cuentística refleja algunas de las inquietudes de aquella sociedad finisecular mexicana y urbana y de un arte embebidos en los discursos científicos del biologicismo positivista. Esta colección de cuentos pone al alcance del lector el universo oscuro y grotesco, pero también fascinante, de este escritor mexicano olvidado.

Francisco Zárate Ruiz. Tales of Horror and Madness in Mexican Decadentism

Abstract
The concept of hebraica veritas has varied and its initial meaning has changed throughout the medieval centuries and the modern era. Studied from different perspectives, we want to approach it from a different one: that used by Castilian converts in the 15th century.
We will see how, through this perspective, the neophytes claimed their fidelity and belonging to Christianity, which had been called into question on countless occasions. Hebraica veritas was the dialectical approach they decided to use to counteract the countless attacks to which they were subjected.
